Terms of Service
Last updated: April 29, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the SpotBar desktop application and the website at spotbar.app (collectively, the "Service"). By purchasing, downloading, or using SpotBar, you agree to these Terms.
1. Product Description
SpotBar is a desktop application for macOS (Windows coming soon) that displays live gold, silver, platinum, and palladium spot prices in your menu bar. It includes a vault feature for tracking your own holdings and supports multiple currencies and weight units. Spot prices are fetched from our caching proxy on a regular schedule while markets are open. All vault data is processed and stored locally on your computer.
2. License
Upon purchase of a Pro license, you are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use SpotBar. This license is for your individual use and does not permit redistribution, resale, or sublicensing of the software. You may install the application on multiple devices that you personally own and use.
The Free tier of SpotBar is provided at no cost and is governed by the same Terms, with the exception of the purchase and license sections.
3. Free Tier and Pro Upgrade
SpotBar offers a Free tier with gold price tracking in U.S. dollars. The Pro tier unlocks all four metals, additional currencies (INR, EUR, GBP, AED), additional weight units (gram, tola, kilo), and the menu-bar vault value display. No credit card or account is required to use the Free tier.
4. Purchase and Payment
The Pro tier is available as a one-time purchase. All payments are processed through Stripe, our third-party payment processor. By making a purchase, you also agree to Stripe's terms of service. Prices are subject to change, but any price changes will not affect existing purchases. Future updates are included for all Pro license holders.
5. Privacy and Data
Your privacy is important to us. SpotBar processes your vault data locally on your device. The app fetches spot prices from our proxy and may send anonymous launch events and crash reports, both of which can be disabled in Settings. For a full description of how we handle data on our website and in the application, please see our Privacy Policy.
6. Restrictions
You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software
- Redistribute, resell, or sublicense the software
- Use the software for any unlawful purpose
- Remove or modify any proprietary notices or labels in the software
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
SpotBar is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with all devices or configurations. Spot prices displayed in the app are sourced from third-party data feeds and are intended for informational purposes only — they are not investment advice and should not be used as the sole basis for any financial transaction.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SpotBar and its creator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from the use or inability to use the software. Our total liability for any claim related to the software is limited to the amount you paid for the license.
9. Third-Party Services
SpotBar relies on third-party data providers and payment processors to deliver its functionality. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or reliability of these third-party services. Any references to companies such as Kitco, GoldPrice.org, the LBMA, COMEX, or Bloomberg are for descriptive purposes only — SpotBar is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of these organizations.
10. Changes to These Terms
